Q1: What is GPS?

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide satellite navigation infrastructure funded and controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense, originally developed for U.S. military purposes. GPS provides satellite signals that enable GPS receivers to calculate their exact position and velocity. The GPS infrastructure has three segments. The space segment consists of 24 satellites that orbit the earth every 12 hours. The control segment consists of tracking stations located around the world, with the master control station located at Falcon Air Force Base in Colorado. The user segment consists of GPS receivers and users utilising the information provided by the system. GPS is widely used in many location, tracking or navigation applications. Which in the case of Connex, it is used for stolen vehicle tracking purposes.

Q2:
What is GSM?

Global System for Mobile Communication. Originally developed as a pan-European standard for digital mobile telephony, GSM has become the world's most widely used mobile system. It is used on the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequencies in Europe, Asia and Australia, and the MHz 1800 frequency in North America and Latin America.

Q3:
How does Connex work?

Connex combines the use of advanced GSM, GPS and Internet technologies, which in short is called Telematics. Telematics technology enables the vehicle owner to receive communications from the in-vehicle electronic module directly on his/her mobile, home or office phone. Alerts and messages can also be received through e-mail or by fax. Reacting to alerts, owners can use either their phone or any Internet / Web connection to send commands back to the vehicle - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Q4:
Is there a pre-requisite to installing Connex to my car?

No. Connex is designed to operate independently as a tracking and communication device to your vehicle. However, it is strongly recommended that your vehicle also be fitted with a local security system as a first level deterrent to car theft.

Q5:
What kind of hardware needs to be installed?

The Connex system consists of the ICD (Intelligent Communication Device) pre-inserted with SIM card, GSM and GPS antenna, and some wiring connections. Installation of these hardware components is relatively simple.
